Biography

Helen L. Wilbur, 80, of Syracuse, passed away Thursday October 10th after a short illness. After graduation from the nursing program at St. Joseph's hospital in 1953, Helen worked at St. Joe's in the newborn Nursery for 41 years until she retired in 1994. If you were born at St. Joe's between 1953 and 1994, there's a good chance that Helen was your first overnight nurse before you went home with your parents. Helen was a great cook and her homemade pies and canned fruits will be missed by everyone in her family. She enjoyed knitting, sewing & quilting. Her quilts are proudly displayed in the homes of all her family members and there are hundreds of her knitted Christmas stockings hanging on the fireplace mantels throughout Central NY every Christmas. Helen was predeceased by her parents, C. Edwin & Marion Wilbur and her brother Kenneth E. Wilbur.
Helen is survived by her sister Nancy Cole of Pace, FL, sister-in-law Kathleen Wilbur Hopkins of East Syracuse and nieces Ann (Vito) Morgese of East Syracuse, Susan (Chris) Dula of Greensboro, NC, Patricia (Chris) King of Worcester, MA., Valerie (Mark) Weekley of Milton, FL, Abbe (Jesse) Trent of Chesterton, IN and nephews Robert (Julie) Cole of Belleview, IL and Carl Cole of Pace, FL and several great nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be Friday at 10 am at the Delaney-Greabell-Adydan Funeral Home 241 Kinne St. East Syracuse. Calling hours will be Thursday from 4 to 7 pm at the funeral home. Burial will be in Riverview Cemetery Baldwinsville.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made to the East Syracuse Free Library (Kenneth E. Wilbur Memorial Building) at 4990 James Street, East Syracuse.
